Pioneer Award nominees are evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Significant impact to the land profession with a distinct contribution
  • Only one award per year to be presented
  • No regional awards
  • No minimum age or work requirement
  • Could be posthumously
  • Open to groups or companies, not just individuals
  • Can be non-members

To be presented to an individual, group or company who has significantly impacted the land profession with a fundamentally distinct contribution. Current Executive Committee members may not be submitted and self-nominations will not be considered.

Lifetime Achievement and Landman of the Year Award nominees are evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Demonstrated Leadership
  • Integrity
  • Contribution to Profession
  • Contribution to Industry
  • Contribution to Community

The most recent calendar year is considered for the Landman of the Year, while the entire land career is considered for Lifetime Achievement. Active Members and Retired Active Members may be considered for this award. Current Executive Committee members may not be submitted and self-nominations will not be considered. Photograph (or negative) of the nominee should be attached to the entry.

Local Association of the Year Award nominees are evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Cumulative rating in the following categories:
  • Best Bulletin/Newsletter
  • Best Member Communication
  • Best AAPL Director’s Communication
  • Points will also be included in the cumulative rating for AAPL membership retention/recruitment
Face of the Industry Award

Nominees for this award should have used a variety of media platforms to communicate to the general public the importance of industry best practices, industry contributions to surrounding communities through community involvement, and how the industry contributes to the ongoing improvement in everyday life.  This award should be presented to an AAPL Member, Local Organization, or supporting corporation that has significantly represented the public face of the land profession and the energy industry as a whole in a positive light.

  • Educational value to the general public (scoring value:  0-8 points)
  • Coverage (local, national and industry) (scoring value: 0-7 points)
Best Published Article in an AAPL Publication
  • Educational/motivational value (scoring value: 0-6 points)
  • Interest to others (scoring value: 0-5 points)
  • Originality of work (scoring value: 0-5 points)
  • Overall presentation (scoring value: 0-5 points)
Best Member Communication Award nominees are evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Educational/motivational value (scoring value: 0-6 points)
  • Interest to others (scoring value: 0-5 points)
  • Originality of work (scoring value: 0-5 points)
  • Overall presentation (scoring value: 0-5 points)
Best AAPL Director’s Communication Award nominees are evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Objectivity: Was communication presented in an unbiased manner? (scoring value: 0-6 points)
  • Clarity: Were board actions and AAPL issues professionally and clearly communicated? (scoring value: 0-5 points) 
  • Analysis: Were key issues identified and concisely presented? (scoring value: 0-5 points) 
  • Overall Presentation (scoring value: 0-5 points) 
Special Award nominees are evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Education: may be presented to a member who has achieved a level of unusual distinction in AAPL’s continuing education program as demonstrated by his/her contribution of time and service to the betterment of land professionals.
  • AAPL Committee Member Award: may be presented to an AAPL Committee member who has greatly exceeded expectations.
  • Community Service: may be presented to a member who has contributed greatly toward civic improvement in his/her local community.
  • Other: may be presented to a member who has achieved unusual distinction or contributed significantly the betterment of land professionals in any other way deemed worthy of recognition.

These awards are presented to the members and groups who have made extraordinary contributions to AAPL, the land profession, the industry or the community.

Best Newsletter/Bulletin Award nominations are evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Educational value to members (scoring value: 0-8 points)
  • Coverage (local, national and industry) (scoring value: 0-7 points)
  • General appearance and layout (scoring value: 0-5 points)
  • Overall presentation (scoring value: 0-5 points)
AAPL Accredited Program Director of the Year

Awarded annually by the AAPL Accreditation Committee, the AAPL Accredited Program Director of the Year Award was created in 2022 to recognize and celebrate a program director from one of AAPL's Accredited Programs. Specifically, the selected program director will be a supporting and enthusiastic leader for their accredited program. Nominate someone for the AAPL Accredited Program Director of the Year Award here.

AWARD CRITERIA:

  • The recipient is an exceptional program director who is highly respected and admired among AAPL’s accredited programs. 
  • The recipient is an Active Member of AAPL and embodies the standards set forth in AAPL's Code of Ethics.
  • The recipient strategically and consistently responds to fundamental challenges and opportunities to benefit the students’ education across the energy spectrum.
  • Elevated appraisal by the committee will be credited to nominees who demonstrate commitment, effort and progress towards broadening the role and bandwidth of land professionals and their development within the industry.

NOMINATION PROCESS:

  • Complete the AAPL Accredited Program Director of the Year Nomination Form by Jan. 10.
  • Include any relevant supporting materials in the following formats: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, PDF and JPG.

SELECTION PROCESS:

  • The selection of award winners will be accomplished by a vote of the Selection Committee, which shall consist of the current voting members of the Accreditation Committee.  
  • The winning nominee will be decided by a simple majority vote of a quorum of the Selection Committee present at a meeting scheduled by the Accreditation Committee chair. The meeting to determine the award winner may be conducted in person or by telephone.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

  • The award is a nonmonetary award.
  • Program directors may win multiple awards; previous winners are not excluded from being selected in the future.
  • Undergraduate and graduate degree program directors are eligible.
